Displayed below are diagrams of the original Aurora Model Motoring Vibrator and ThunderJet 500 chassis along with the Aurora A/FX, Super II, Magna-Traction and G+Plus chassis that followed it. The Specialty chassis is also described and documented at the bottom of this page.

New Old Stock (NOS) repair and replacement parts are available for all of these chassis except the original Aurora Vibrator. Use the Parts hyperlink below each exploded chassis diagram to go directly to the parts page for that particular chassis.

Vibrator

The original Model Motoring Vibrator chassis that started it all. This chassis was first produced in England and then later sold here in the U.S.A. See the History section for more information about how HO Slot Car Racing first began.

ThunderJet 500

The Aurora Model Motoring ThunderJet 500 chassis was the first mass-produced HO slot car offered to the U.S. market. Over its long production life nearly 40 Million of these chassis where produced.

ThunderJet 500 chassis used small body mounting screws at the front and rear of the chassis to secure the body shell to the chassis itself. Body Shells were approximately 1:76 scale.

Original Factory Parts are still readily available for this ever-popular chassis.

Aurora A/FX Chassis

The Aurora A/FX chassis followed the original T-Jet chassis and improved upon its design by increasing the size and weight of the chassis itself and by adding wide rear tires for better traction and handling.

This chassis marked the beginning of the Aurora Factory Experimental (A/FX) era. All chassis produced from this point on had larger more detailed 1:64 scale bodies. Body shells now snapped onto the chassis using side tabs instead of body screws like the original ThunderJets.

Original Factory Parts are available for this popular chassis.

Aurora A/FX Super II Chassis

The Aurora A/FX Super II chassis further improved upon the original A/FX chassis by adding a high-torque motor, taller gearing, front and side chassis weights and a vacuum-formed Lexan body shell.

This chassis was intended as a high-performance racing alternative to the box-stock A/FX chassis it was originally based on.

Original Factory Parts are available for this high-performance chassis.

Aurora A/FX Magna-Traction Chassis

The Aurora A/FX Magna-Traction chassis was Aurora's first attempt at using magnetic downforce to improve performance and handling. The magnetic attraction of the motor magnets and steel power rails made these chassis stick to the track better than the original A/FX chassis.

The motor magnets were lowered and the A/FX chassis itself was modified to expose the magnets so as to position them closer to the track's metal power rails.

Original Factory Parts are available for this second-generation A/FX chassis.

Aurora A/FX G+Plus Chassis

The Aurora A/FX G+Plus chassis was a radical departure from Aurora's earlier HO slot car chassis. Gone was the power-robbing three-gear pancake motor plate, to be replaced by a much simpler and more powerfull inline motor configuration. Stronger motor magnets were now placed directly above the track power rails for true magnetic downforce.

All of the original Aurora A/FX body shells still fit this new chassis, but its low-slung motor assembly now allowed open-wheel Formual 1 and IndyCar body shells to also be fitted.

Original Factory Parts are available for this A/FX Ground Effects chassis.

Aurora A/FX Specialty Chassis

The Aurora A/FX Specialty chassis was a longer wheelbase version of the standard A/FX and Magna-Traction chassis. A fourth gear was added to the gear plate and larger diameter wheels and tires were used both front and read. Most of the other parts such as motor brushes and pickup shoes were the same as those parts used on the standard size chassis.

Special body shells were created for the Specialty chassis along with A/FX Dragsters.

Original Factory Parts are available for the A/FX Specialty chassis.
